Café Coffee Day recognized as Role Model Company at the prestigious Shell Helen Keller Awards 2013


Mumbai, 09 December, 2013: Café Coffee Day, India's largest chain of cafes that champions the cause of people with disabilities received the prestigious 'Shell Helen Keller Award 2013' in the Role Model Companies category. The award by the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) recognised CCD's contribution towards the improvement of lives of persons with disabilities by encouraging change in recruitment attitude.

 

In 2005, CCD established a Vocational Training College at Chikmaglur, Bangalore, to impart quality education to students from less fortunate financial backgrounds. On successful completion of their courses in hotel management, they are employed across CCD outlets in the country. During this initiative the management realized the value they were adding to the lives of the underprivileged. They therefore decided to make focused efforts for the differently abled individuals as well. CCD has been hiring candidates with disability and creating a special induction program for the speech and hearing impaired. This program is designed to aid the use their strong sense of smell, vision and taste effectively. CCD has recruited and trained over 150 people with disabilities to date. Their Silent Brewmasters are a testament to CCD’s continuous dedication for the cause.

 

Speaking on the receipt of the award, K Ramakrishnan, President Marketing, Café Coffee Day, shared, 'Providing equal rights and gainful employment for persons with disabilities is part of CCD's culture. Some of India's most distinguished corporates have received the award. We take great pride in being part of this compassionate fraternity. Once again, we have proved that sensitivity at the work place can only add and not take away from the overall productivity of the organization. Our special policies and practices in the area ensure an inclusive environment. With the right training and guidance innate talents of people with disabilities can be harnessed for them to become assets to an organization. We value the award and hope to see more.'
